To borrow a quote from The A-Team, we love it when a plan comes together.
It’s time once again for the local scene’s biggest annual love-fest, scheduled for February 1 and 2 at Relix Variety Theatre, where we’ve held it every year since its inception! For WayneStock IX we’re bringing back the Thursday show, with this year’s opening evening on January 31 to be held around the corner from Relix, at The Outpost.
Born out of tragedy, Waynestock began as a way to lift the spirits and help out the family of former News Sentinel music writer Wayne Bledsoe, who lost his son unexpectedly in December 2010. His friends couldn’t abide simple condolences, however, and we put together a festival in his son’s memory.
In the years since, Waynestock: For the Love of Drew has grown into something greater than the sum of its parts. Tragedy has given way to celebration, and while the spirit of community is still as strong as it ever was, the festival is now a showcase of some of the coolest, most talented acts in the local scene.
